Studying in Italy in English, without speaking Italian

Over 300 official 2026/2027 programmes taught in English or bilingual, at 60 universities: where they are and what you need to prove.

Yes, you can

Our 2026/2027 catalogue lists over 300 official programmes taught in English or bilingual, at 60 Italian universities. Each one is checked on Universitaly, the Italian Ministry of University's portal.

Mostly master's degrees, but bachelor's too

Most of these programmes are master's degrees (Laurea Magistrale, 2 years): 233 in all. There are also about 75 bachelor's degrees (Laurea, 3 years) in English, at 35 universities, so a Tunisian school-leaver does not have to go through Italian.

Where these programmes are

The universities with the most are the University of Bologna (23), the University of Turin, Sapienza in Rome, Bocconi in Milan, then Padua and Ca' Foscari in Venice. Smaller universities offer them too, in every region. The catalogue shows the language of each programme.

What you need to prove

For a programme in English, universities usually ask for a B2 level in English, with a recognised certificate. Italian is not required for admission, but it helps a lot in daily life.

What comes next

The path is the same as for a programme in Italian: apply to the university, pre-enrol on Universitaly, then apply for the study visa. Our guide "Studying in Italy from Tunisia" explains the five steps.
