Italian study visa from Tunisia (2026/2027)

The documents the Italian Embassy in Tunis requires, the €10,179.85 blocked account, the Almaviva appointment and the deadline.

Which visa

It is the type D national visa « Study – University enrolment », valid for 365 days with multiple entries. It can only be requested after the university has validated your Universitaly pre-enrolment.

Since 11 January 2025, fingerprints are also taken for national visas: attending the appointment in person is essential.

Where and when

In Tunisia, applications are lodged with Almaviva Visa Services on behalf of the Italian Embassy, which alone decides. Almaviva contacts pre-enrolled students by e-mail, at the address given on Universitaly, and the appointment date cannot be changed.

For 2026/2027 the deadline is 30 November 2026 (31 October 2027 for 2027/2028). Some universities set an earlier date, and the embassy states that processing can take up to 90 days.

Documents the embassy requires

  • The signed application form, a passport valid for at least 15 months and a recent photo that meets the standards.
  • The summary of your validated Universitaly pre-enrolment, in two copies.
  • Your secondary-school diploma, original and copy, translated into Italian and legalised, with the CIMEA statements or the declaration of value.
  • For a master's degree: your university degree and the record of exams passed, translated and legalised.
  • A language certificate: at least B2 in Italian, or sufficient proof of English for an English-taught programme.
  • A return flight or ferry reservation, and proof of accommodation: merely applying for a university residence is not enough.
  • Health insurance covering medical care and hospital stays in Italy.
  • Proof of funds and the bank statement confirming that the funds are blocked.
  • Your birth certificate and family certificate, translated and apostilled, and the certificate of socio-economic situation issued by the relevant Tunisian ministry.

Funds: €10,179.85

The embassy requires a bank statement showing at least €783.06 a month for 13 months, i.e. €10,179.85, irrevocably blocked for 12 months with a monthly transfer of €783.06. The funds must come from a lawful, traceable source; they may come from relatives up to the fourth degree, with the matching civil-status records.

Merely applying for a regional grant does not count: only a grant actually awarded can replace all or part of these funds.

Before you apply

  • Every document in French, translated into Italian and apostilled.
  • Certificates in the original, signed and stamped.
  • Bank statements and proof of income consistent with the amount shown.
  • A coherent study plan: the embassy also assesses migration risk and may invite the student to a short interview.
